Slacker

Hey Action Takers!

So I’ve been slacking the past month on getting some updates and posts out here. But I have a good excuse! NoHatSEO.com PTC and #WDS2014

I started the PTC over at NoHatSEO.com and have created 3 sites in the past 4 weeks. It has been a crazy 4 weeks. I’ve learned a new and great way to do keyword research.

I used to just look at the KC score when using LTP, and shoot from the hip when evaluating the 1st page results. Now I have a solid approach on keyword research and properly evaluating the 1st page in Google.

It kind of looks like NS1 wasn’t the best niche to go after. Using what I have learned so far it is going to take alot longer to rank NS1 than I thought, just by looking at the KC score.

Google Sandbox

So as I’m sure alot of you have seen recently. There have been several posts talking about the Google “Sandbox” for new sites. It looks like this is generally 6 months. So this is good news for me since NS1 just went over the 6 month mark headed into the 7th. Overal I’m on the 3rd page for a decent chunk of keywords. I suspect that this will only improve over the next few months. I’m quite relieved since I have over 1k into the site so far. :) or is it :( lol.

Keep your head up if your sites aren’t performing well yet! It might just take 6 months to see some rankings.

Google is becoming my friend again

So here is a quick update for NS1. It seems that was just going through a little bit of a “sandboxing”. The rankings are slowly but surely gaining traction. Here is a snapshot of the rankings that recently shot way up in the serps. I hadn’t checked my rankings for about 2 days and this is what I saw. Kinda crazy, but hey I’m not complaining.

Google Rankings Scrapebox RanktrackerHere is shot of my top keywords.

As you can see not quite to page 1. There is only keyword on page 2, but unfortunately it a low volume misspelling. :( lol I’m getting a few more backlinks from a PBN. The big jump in rankings is most likely to the 2 links I have gotten in the past 2 weeks. With 3 more over the next 3 weeks I should see some better rankings.

I’ll be sure to write up another update if I see anything crazy with the rankings.

Until next time, thanks for stopping by.

Rankings update

Here’s a quick update with my NS1. There are 22 pieces of content on the site, and so far I’ve seen some improvement in rankings. Not as much as I’d like. But how much can you expect from a handful of Web 2.0 links and 1 link from a PBN site that has PA 41, DA 29. As you can see below, the rankings are very impressive. I’m remaining optimistic for the site as I think slow and steady will win the race, lol. Or am I just fooling myself. What do you think?

Moving forward

I have 6 backlinks lined up for the site in the coming weeks. Hopefully this will be what is needed to get NS1 up to the 1st and 2nd pages in Google.

Another thing I’ve been thinking about implementing is using SocialADR for NS1. Matt over at Dumbpassiveincome.com has used SocialADR for one of his niche sites and it has proved valuable in moving the site up the serps. I’m going to watch my ranking over the next week and make a decision about whether SocialADR could help me, and also if I want to add another expense to the growing list.

What Rankings? Why does Google hate me?

What Rankings? Why does Google hate me?

So I was ranking for a few keywords on the 4th, 5th, and 6th page, but then my site disappeared. Which Hayden over at Nohateseo.com wrote about Sandboxing of new sites that fail their “audition” with Google. Which it looks like that is what happened to mine.

All is not lost. I have been building out 3 Web 2.0’s myself(haven’t linked back to my money site yet) And I recently picked up a Hoth platinum pkg which gave me another 8 web 2.0’s. NS1 has begun to show back up in the SERPS, there are a few terms that are on the 6th, 7th, and 8th page. Things are improving. There is 14 total pieces of content on the site now, 2 of the articles are 1k each.

Back linking has been something I’ve been dragging my feet on. It is one of those things that I worry about hurting my site, even before it gets a chance. NS1 is a product review site, and I’ve found it hard to find other sites/blogs that would be good to outreach to. Since most of the potential sites/blogs would see NS1 as competition. But there are a few sites that I’ve shot emails out to, fingers crossed they respond positively.

Dropping off the SERP radar, was totally not cool and super lame in my opinion. I was using LTP to check my rank, but I would have to set the delay time really high, and would usually get blocked my Google. Entering a captcha is lame when you don’t set the time delay high enough. Now I’ve been using Scrape box’s Rank Tracker to check my rankings. It seems to work well; the only downside is needing proxies on hand to run it. Which is costing be about 18 dollars a month for 11 of them. Scrapebox is a pretty good tool to have, Jacob King has a great tutorial on how to use it here. Here is another guide from Neil Patel and Brian Dean on advanced link building using Scrapebox. I’ve used it to build a blogger outreach list.

Now to implement getting some high authority backlinks from a PBN.  I’ve purchased some credits to use with Rankhero.co. My first article should be going live very soon, and I’m watching my rankings daily to see what kind of influence it will have. There will be a separate blog post just for that.  I also bought 5 domains from Jon over at AuthorityWebsiteIncome.com, and have some content ordered for them. Starting a PBN is not only for NS1, but I intend on using for future sites. I really think having a PBN will be extremely valuable to my sites. Jon and Doug have both written about getting links from PBN’s, and have posts talking about “how many links do you need to rank”. Good stuff since that always seems to be a question that comes up, “how many backlinks do I really need?”

Expenses

These have started to build up. I plan putting together a monthly income/expense report. Right now it would be just an expense reportL. But here is a quick snapshot of what I’ve got into NS1 so far (figures are approximate)

$40 – 20, 500 word articles

$20 – 5 1k word articles

$10 – Domain Reg

$20 – 4 months of web hosting.

$297 – Rank Hero

250 – the Hoth plat pkg

310 – PBN(including registration)

Total: $947 wow!

Almost a thousand dollars, ouch. NS1 needs to start getting some traffic and making money.

Paralysis by Analysis

So here is my first post here on Taking Action Online. I’ve been thinking and thinking of what I should write about first. There were just so many things to talk about, and so many things that I have learned recently.

Here is a synopsis of what I’ve been doing the past 3 months, wow we are almost through the first quarter! I’m going to have to take more action if I want to meet my goals!

Goals for 2014.

  • Create 4 money making sites.
  • Gross 2k/mo from those sites.
  • Land my first SEO client.

First I’ve created one site so far in the home good niche. It’s actually technically my second site, but the first one was a bust. I did not do a good enough job of analyzing it prior to purchase. It was an expired domain. I got the itch to buy one after reading Hayden at NoHatSEO .  It had good PA and DA, but I should have taken a look at the backlinks better. Most of them were good, but there were quite a few in the “make money online” niche. Oh well lesson learned. Time to move on. So then I moved away from trying to build out a site from an expired domain.

I purchased LTP and started to work on Keyword research. I used the metrics Pat Flynn talks about in finding a good niche. Its good place to start Check his criteria here or if you like videos better click here I also took lots of advice from Spencer or at Nichepursuits.com  Seeing Pat’s Security Guard Training site and Spencer’s Survival Knife site really motivated to get started and take action to start my own niche site.

Using Long Tail Pro made keyword research sooo much easier! I started off just using the Google Keyword planner and it was slow and painful, and I got distracted very easily Facebook or YouTube seemed to call my name. LTP made it easier and quicker, I splurged and paid for the platinum version. Being able to make one click and get the “KC” (keyword Competitiveness) was great especially for a newbie like me. I finally came to a few niches that I thought might work. I picked one, and fingers crossed it will pan out! J So that was the beginning of January.

I was like great I have my niche, now that the hard part is done let the money start rolling in! lol Now I needed to pick a domain name. I finally decided on one, after many brainstorming sessions, and driving my wife nuts constantly asking her if a domain name sounded good or not.

Now I have my domain, I needed to start putting some content up! Which I followed Jon Haver’s method for getting cheap articles that don’t suck and picked up 10 articles on oDesk. Which was an interesting thing. My advice is not to pay anything upfront!! I did that for one of and ended up almost losing 4 bucks, lol its not much, but it seemed like a big deal at the time. I was so worried about losing my shirt and had to step back and remind myself that it was 4 dollars. It took him forever to get back to me after he accepted the job. Plus when he provided two articles to me to look over they sucked! It read as if someone that did not speak English as their first language wrote them, which the guy was supposedly from the states. I ended up canceling the contract with him and took the two articles, and planned to put them on a web 2.0 or something. It was all good though because I had hired 3 different writers J Only 1 actually worked out, he was great! And he has written 20 articles for me so far.  I just ordered another 5 from him today actually. Now that I have a good start with my content, I needed a logo.

I went to fiverr and started looking through all the gigs for logo creation. I finally picked a gig, and bit the bullet. I don’t know why it was so hard to do, it was only 5 bucks so even if it sucked, I’ve easily wasted more on other things. It ended up not being great, but it worked.

Rock and roll I have my content, and logo. Stepping back a minute, I did purchase hosting when I bought the expired domain.

Fast forward to today, I have my site up with about 11 pieces of content. But I’ve been debating on what to do to get exposure for my site. I know I need backlinks, so I’ve done some manual blog commenting. I’ve been thinking about buying some PBN links. I would just hate to hurt my site even before I’m ranking for anything.

Which I’ve decided that I’m going to just go and buy some PBN links to get started. I really want to see my site rank. It is sitting on 4th, 5th and 6th page for a few keywords. This isn’t bad for not having any links show up in Opensiteexplorer.

I’ve had my site going for almost 3 months now, and have been over analyzing this thing called backlinking.

I’ll post an update after I get some backlinks going to the site, and let you know how it worked out. Jon just posted a good post concerning “How many backlinks Do you need to rank on the First Page of Google?”  So hopefully I can do the same with my site since it doesn’t have any backlinks as of yet, and see if it responds similar to Jon’s site.

Until next time!
